High School Fall Retreat | POSTPONED

Unfortunately, we have to postpone our High School retreat.  We wish we didn’t have to, but there were a couple of factors that led to this decision.  If you are interested in learning more, check out the letter Joel sent out to those who registered.

Joel's Letter to Parents

Day for Truth & Reconciliation

This Friday, September 30th is our national day for Truth and Reconciliation. This is an important day for our country to acknowledge the wrongs done in the past – many of them done by the Church – and an opportunity for us as Christians to ask for forgiveness and to walk alongside our brothers and sisters who are indigenous; to hear stories and to learn how to go forward in a better way. There are plenty of opportunities for you to get involved around our city. Many are listed on the City of Thunder Bay’s website. Here are a couple that we wish to highlight for you. Also check out the Walking Together Group on Facebook for more resources and opportunities to engage beyond just this day.

Reconciliation Run at Boulevard Lake

Join the Mazinaajim Children’s Foundation on September 30th at Boulevard Lake for a 5km, 10km or Half Marathon honouring the Indigenous children lost and the healing journey of residential school survivors and their families on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

All proceeds go to support the Mazinaajim Children’s Foundation.

RPC Food Bank

Redwood Park Church Food Bank serves a great need in our city! Covid created further challenges for all, and now that we are slowly putting the pandemic in the rear view mirror, we face many new trials.

We are so grateful for the over 25 volunteers who come regularly to prepare for and serve our friends in need – about 200 families each month.

During the pandemic, donations, programs, and support for food security was fast and efficient! The RPC Food Bank received an $18,000 government grant, which helped not only with food, but with a new freezer, a new fridge, and many other supplies to help us run more efficiently. All food banks are struggling with donations since the pandemic, as grants and programs created specifically for food insecurity have dried up, and the public is growing weary with the constant ask for money. The government does not generally fund food banks; they are run with donations usually sought out by the organization. Our food bank is so fortunate to be able to be a member of RFDA, who supplies us with most of our food. We also are generously supported by you, our church, which provides a budget for us to pay our rent, and buy food and supplies.

We count on church members not only for financial support, but to regularly bring items to our Food Bank donation box located at the North door entrance. Now that most of us are back to church, we ask that you make it a regular habit to drop off a food donation each time you come to church!

How you can pray: Please join us in praying for our volunteers and our clients, that we may serve with the heart of Jesus, and that our clients lives are lifted out of poverty.

Ways to Help

WITH A FOOD DONATION

There is a Food Bank donation box located at our North door that is ready to overflow with non-perishable donations! You can bring a food donation anytime you come.

  • Canned soup, vegetables and fruit
  • Pasta and pasta sauce
  • Crackers of all kinds
  • Juice boxes or cans
  • Rice of all kinds/ dry side dish packages
  • Peanut butter, jam, and sauces
  • Coffee and tea
  • Toilet paper, shampoo, body wash, & all toiletries

WITH A MONETARY DONATION

We spend several hundred dollars each food bank day to purchase fruits and vegetables.  Your generosity directly supports providing food for those who need it.
